Description :

British playwright and actor Noel Coward holding three koalas at the Koala Farm in Adelaide. Over the years it has been common for well known visitors to South Australia to be photographed with koalas.

The Koala Bear Farm was established in 1929 in Adelaide's north parklands across from where the Women's and Children's Hospital. Initially a snake park, in 1936 the owner, Alfred Minchin, expanded it to include koalas and other native animals. Surplus koalas were released on his property on Kangaroo Island. The Adelaide City Council closed the Koala Bear Farm in 1960.
