The inaugural Adelaide Festival of Ideas was held 9-11 July 1999, North Terrace, Adelaide. It was sponsored by Nokia, the City of Adelaide and the Government of South Australia, and presented by Adelaide Festival of Arts. The Festival gathers together the world's most thought-provoking speakers to present a series of lectures and panel discussions exploring contemporary issues and ideas. The Festival is held in several venues along Adelaide's cultural boulevard, North Terrace. Past themes include reconciliation, democracy, survival and cooperation, cloning and ethics, addiction and water. Past speakers include Beatrix Campbell, Professor Sneja Gunew, Paul Davies, Professor Margaret Somerville, Barry Jones, Peter Sellars, McKenzie Wark, Naomi Klein, Paul Davies, Tim Flannery, Raimond Gaita and Robyn Williams. |
