Jenny Cooke worked for the Women's shelter from the beginning, prior to the establishment of the first government funded shelter in Childers Street, North Adelaide in November 1974. Jenny talks about establishing the shelters, lobbying, Dawn McMahon, the founder, the first co-ordinator of Childers Street shelter and first Chairperson of Women's Housing, Bloor Court, domestic violence, police powers, work shared with Dawn, shelters and the first houses for women, speaking up about violence against women, involvement with WEL, culture of the Housing Trust, involvement of women in the Women's Housing Association. |
