Description : |
View of a house, Paechtown, constructed using traditional German methods. Paechtown is in the Adelaide Hills a few kilometres from Hahndorf, one of the earliest German settlements in South Australia. Features of this farmhouse characteristicly eastern German in style include the high pitched roof over a loft and the method of half timber construction. This system of using timber beams in-filled by wattle and daub or brick is called 'Fachwerk'. |
