South Australians at War
SA Memory. South Australia past and present, for the future

Conflicts : World War One : Commemoration

More than 60,000 Australians lost their lives in the First World War. A further 156,000 men were wounded, gassed or taken prisoner. Approximately 5,000 South Australian lives were lost in the conflict. The Souvenir guide of South Australia's fighting men of the A.I.F., published in 1919, provides details of the contributions South Australians made in each of the theatres of war between 1914 and 1918, and gives biographical notes on individual officers.

Treasure's Wall exhibition curator Carolyn Spooner talks about the World War One exhibition held at the State Library in 2010 with the ABC's Brett Williamson here. Courtesy of the ABC.

The Library holds a vast amount of material dealing with the many facets of the First World War, including the commemoration of those who served.
