Description : |
Giles's fourth expedition was equipped with camels from Elder's Beltana stud and in this passage Giles praises their quality. He also writes of the strain and responsibilty of leadership with six other men dependent on him to get them through safely. They were enjoying the luxury of a plentiful supply of water after an arduous march of some 16 days since they had filled their casks at Boundary Dam. Giles was searching for a useful route between Adelaide and Perth, and having previously explored further north and discovered Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Lake Amadeus, on this expedition used a more southerly route hoping for better conditions. Water however, in sufficient quantities for men and camels was difficult to find. |
