Steam car made by David Shearer of Mannum in 1898. David Shearer and his brother John had an agricultural machinery factory in Mannum, on the River Murray. David became interested in steam powered vehicles and began experimenting with steam engines in the 1890s. His steam car was first successfully driven in 1897 and is known as Australia's first car. |
