Article reporting on the opening of the first School of the Air at Alice Springs. The School of the Air allowed children in remote areas to use the Royal Flying Doctor Service's (RFDS) radio network to participate in school classes. The RFDS was founded by Reverend John Flynn in 1928 to provide medical assistance in emergencies to people living in remote areas. The Service was initially at established Cloncurry in Queensland and expanded throughout Australia in the 1930s. |
