Description : |
In 1890 the Southern Argus newspaper wrote, 'The relations of church and stage have at all times been a matter of fruitful controversy. In this progressive age prejudice is fast waning away' (19 June 1890, p. 6, col. g). From the 1890s there was a proliferation of church-based social and sporting clubs, literary societies and youth organisations. This was perhaps particularly the case in the country, where much of the social life available centred around the churches. A church dramatic society was formed at Kapunda in 1902 under the Rev. George Griffiths. |
