Description : |
The burial register of Christ Church Anglican church, Yankalilla, pre-dates resident clergy in the district - the earliest burials being conducted by the clerk of the Normanville local court, Charles Scott. The burial grounds covered include the Yankalilla government cemetery, the Myponga Methodist cemetery (now beneath the waters of the Myponga reservoir) and St. Paul's Hay Flat cemetery. A large number of the earliest burials listed are those of babies and small children, reflecting the high mortality rate of the time. Marking the passage of death continues to be an important role of churches. |
