Description :
In 1992 the 14th Dalai Lama, the exiled head of state and spiritual leader of Tibet, visited Adelaide, during a tour of Australia. In 1950, China invaded Tibet and since 1960 the Dalai Lama, with thousands of other Tibetan refugees, has been forced to live in India. His writings and teachings on Buddhism, as well as many other topics, have attracted wide attention. In 1989 the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Thousands of South Australians flocked to hear him speak at various venues in Adelaide including the Entertainment Centre, St Francis Xavier's Cathedral, the Adeladie Town Hall and the University of Adelaide.
