In 1911 the acclaimed dancer Anna Pavlova established her own dance company which toured internationally. The J.C. Williamson organization brought her company to Australia in 1926 and 1929. Considered the greatest ballerina of her time, Pavlova played to full houses with ecstatic newspapers reports about the performances. Pavlova appeared in Adelaide at the Theatre Royal on 26 and 27 June 1929. She was partnered by Pierre Vladimiroff. The company presented various ballets, including The magic flute and Don Quixote, and several shorter divertissements, such as The Swan and Pierrot. Works which Pavlova had choreographed herself, including Russian dance and Au Bal, were also performed. |
