Description :
The St. Martin de Porres Church in Pirie Street was originally the site of St. Joseph's school and church. From the 1950s various migrant groups met in the church, and from 1978 it began being used for worship by members of the Aboriginal Catholic community. In 1983 the building became the 'Otherway Centre,' the administrative centre for the Aboriginal Catholic ministry, housing the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council, and providing services for Aboriginal youth.
