Description : |
One of the aims of Our Boys Institute was to encourage a 'Christ-like manly character' in boys - as reported in Our boys' manuscript newspaper no. 1 (1888). Therefore, as well as Bible classes, vocational training and other courses, the Adelaide OBI had a well-equipped gymnasium and pool with instructors such as Hugo Leschen on hand. From its inception regular camps were also held in the country. From the late 1890s the OBI were given permission to camp on the Hay family estate, 'Mount Breckan' at Victor Harbor. Eventually the organisation acquired a portion of this land for use as a regular campsite. |
