One of the most strongly characteristic practises of Christians is going to church for worship. Worship is the most visible expression of Christianity. Christians have gathered for weekly Sunday worship from earliest times, choosing Sunday because it was on this day that Jesus rose from the dead, as well as containing symbolism connected with the Biblical story of the creation and Jesus representing the 'new creation'. Through Christian worship community is built, religious feeling expressed, and individual Christian identity shaped. For many individuals, Christian worship is the primary focus and context for their personal beliefs. |
