Description : |
In 1887 Presbyterians first began meeting in a barn at Limestone Wells (Winninowie), 15 miles from Port Augusta. In 1890 a weatherboard church was opened in the presence of 70 local people. Services were held fortnightly, and there were active Christian Endeavour, Sunday school, and youth groups. A new building was erected in 1938, but this closed in 1960. By this time the district, like many, was experiencing the agricultural decline which saw the rise of many ghost towns in the mid-north affecting, amongst other things, the viability of country churches.
