Description : |
Lacking government support, most churches have of necessity maintained a strong fund-raising focus. In this, as in so many facets of religious life, women have played a major role. Sir Edwin Smith, wealthy Kent Town brewer, was a prominent member of the Clayton Congregational Church and made his Marryatville home, 'The Acacias' (now Loreto Convent), available for church functions including the 1899 church fete. |
