Description : |
Lucy Webb was born at Lyndoch in 1871, eldest of the seven children of the Rev. Robert Webb and his wife Anne (nee Gilbert). The family moved to Clare in 1876 and remained there until Robert Webb died in 1911, when Mrs Webb and her daughters Lucy and Juliet moved to Adelaide. In 1913 Lucy and Juliet moved to Victor Harbour, where they spent the rest of their lives. Lucy's first published newspaper articles were obituaries of Queen Victoria and her uncle, Canon Charles Morse, published in 1901. By 1905 she was writing wedding reports and religious notes for the Critic and, until her death in 1953, was a contributor of social and religious notes and historical articles to many Adelaide and country newspapers. Webb's speciality was local Anglican Church history, having grown up knowing many of the pioneers of the Anglican Church in South Australia personally. |
