Description : |
Article announcing the launch of the Holden, the first all-Australian made car. The Holden 48-215 (later commonly known as the FX) was released with plenty of fanfare in November 1948. The notion of a car made entirely in Australia had been suggested as early as the 1930s, but plans had been shelved with the advent of the Second World War. The 48-215 was a six-seater with a 2.15 litre engine and offered great performance for a family car. Its price when new was about $1466 and it was so popular many had to wait for months for their order to be delivered. In total 120,402 were manufactured. |
