Description : |
Creek in Everard Range Creek in the Everard Ranges. The Elder Scientific Exploring Expedition was in this region quite early in their program: late June and early July. The country was well grassed and had a sufficiency of water. There were many Aboriginal people in the area. Lindsay, the expedition leader, records in his journal that Dr Elliott, the expedition's photographer was very busy with his camera, recording the scenes. The Elder Scientific Exploring Expedition was one of the earliest major expeditions to be equipped with cameras and photographic apparatus. Dr FJ Elliott was expedition doctor and photographer. He recorded the country the expedition traversed, the expedition and the Aboriginal people they encountered. As the expedition pushed beyond the country covered by earlier expeditions they began to encounter Aboriginal people who had not previously seen Europeans. Many of the images captured are highly evocative. |
