Description : |
Graham, Kevin and Billie Daniel with their dog and 89 pairs of rabbits collected over two nights on the family farm at Ninnes in January 1950. The pelts were used for Akubra hats and the meat sent to wholesale butchers. During 1950 the myxomatosis virus was released in Australia. Initially this had a dramatic effect on the rabbit population but genetic resistance enabled to population to increase significantly during the next 40 years. In 1996 rabbit calicivirus was released. This has not however been as successful as myxomatosis. |
