Description :

Kensington Horse tram. This view taken from an early glass photograph.

On 10 June 1878 horse dawn trams for public transport commenced operation between Adelaide and Kensington to provide public transport. In Adelaide a system of horse drawn trams was developed, in contrast to single lines of tramway. From 1909, electric trams began to replace the horse drawn vehicles.

By 1958 only the Adelaide-Glenelg tramway remained in service and it continues to operate. At Victor Harbor, a horse tram transports passengers to and from Granite Island. This view of the Kensington Horse tram was taken from an early glass photograph.
