This article talks about changes in operations occuring at the government dockyard at Port Adelaide, including being run by the Harbour Department. The main focus of attention in the article is the No. 6 dredger currently under construction. On its completion it is reported it will go to Port Augusta to continue dredging operations there. Barges to assist the dredger's work are also under construction or planned. The snag boat Grappler is undergoing alterations to conbert it into a dredger. The article also gives details of other machinery employed in the yard.

WE Slade was the engineer at the dockyard and was later in charge of it. He was subsequently appointed Assistant Engineer in charge of Harbours and Jetties, and in 1905 was sent on a mission to England to purchase pipe-making machinery. His mission was successful in part, but Slade was taken ill and died on the way back to South Australia.
