Description :
The Barossa and Light herald took over from two older newspapers, the Barossa news and the Kapunda herald. The newspaper was begun by John Liddy of the Barossa news. Early issues contain interesting local advertisements as well as many references to post-war issues such as security loans and national service. Obituaries of local identities, church news and weddings receive detailed coverage in this period. By the 1960s agricultural matters took more space, in particular the district's distinctive wine industry. Like many country newspapers, sport was also given prominence in its columns. The newspaper was taken over by the Rural Press in the 1990s and is now part of the Fairfax Media group. Since 2005 the title has been shortened to Herald.
