Description :

Distant view of the jetty and surrounding buildings at Fowlers Bay. The residents of Fowlers Bay on the far west coast petitioned for a jetty in 1891. The government agreed to build a small boat jetty but the petitioners protested and finally the government capitulated and agreed to build a full sized jetty. This was initially 304 metres long with a depth at the end of 3 metres of water at low tide. The jetty was completed by 1896.

It was lengthened in 1907 and 1914 and again in 1948. The last cargoes were shipped from the port in the 1960s: wheat was shipped February 1963, wool in Novemver 1965 and barley in February 1965. MV Yandra was the last ship to use the port.

The jetty is now used for recreational purposes and by the fishing industry. During 2002 the jetty was upgraded with new decking but was also reduced in length to 347 metres from its immediate post World War II length of 361 metres.
