Side view of the exterior of Adelaide's Bicentennial Conservatory in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, North Terrace, Adelaide. The Bicentennial Conservatory in the Adelaide Botanic Garden is the largest single span conservatory in the southern hemisphere. It was built to celebrate the 1988 bicentenary of european settlement in Australia. South Australian architect Guy Maron designed the glasshouse which is curvilinear in shape, 100 metres long, 47 metres wide and 27 metres high.
This distinctive building houses tropical rainforest plants from northern Australia and islands to the north of this region. Visitors can gain a sense of what a rainforest is like, with the variety of plantings and microclimate created in the conservatory. |
