PS Industry towing the derrick boat. Industry is a composite paddle steamer built by GB Wilson, Goolwa, in 1911 and was designed by AJ Inches. The boat was used for lock repairs, snagging and dredging by the South Australian Government and later by the River Murray Commission. It was extensively refitted in 1933. The derrick boat was operated by E&WS Department (SA Water) and had 3 friction winches, 1 swinger winch and a 75 foot boom

Retired in 1969 Industry was presented to the town of Renmark and opened as a museum in 1975. After restoration and a survey to assess her fitness she was granted a licence to carry passengers for trips from Renmark. Industry is operated by 'Friends of the Industry'

Snags are the remains of trees in the river, trees that have either been flushed downstream during floods and become stranded, or trees that have toppled into the river from the adjacent bank. With their branches and roots largely underwater they create an enormous hazard in the water. The first snag boat on the River Murray was the Grappler in 1858. Designed by Francis Cadell, the Grappler was built specifically to remove snags from the river and was fitted with a crane able to lift 14 to 15 tons, or logs four to five feet in diameter.

The first Industry was built in 1876. In 1911 she was replaced by another vessel, also named Industry.
