Description : |
One of the most active Italian musicians in Adelaide before the turn of the 20th century was Vincezo de Giorgio. He was born in Rome in 1868 and studied piano and singing in Naples. De Giorgio arrived in Adelaide in 1898 and gave his first concert at the Albert Hall in the German Club. He opened his own school the Classical School of Pianoforte and Singing. He was an enthusiastic musician in South Australia but it is difficult to trace where his subsequent career took him. Mrs Way was Katharine Gollan (who became Lady Katharine Gollan Way) whom Samuel Way married in April 1898. In all probabilty this piece was written to commemorate their marriage. |
