Portrait of F.W.R. Sadler, who was to be the Commander of H.M.S. Buffalo, on her voyage to South Australia. Sadler provisioned his ship for the historic voyage to South Australia in 1836 but due to a promotional appointment a week before departing his place was taken by Mr. James Wood and the ship was Captained by John Hindmarsh. The painting shows Sadler with his right hand on the head of his dog named 'Buffalo'. |
