Poster advertising the Adelaide Rose Festival, 1995. The poster features the 'Spirit of Peace' rose. It was chosen in honour of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, celebrated as 'Australia remembers'. The 'Spirit of Peace' rose also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 'Peace' rose which was developed to celebrate the end of the war. The 'Peace' rose has been extremely popular over the years and has large yellow orange blooms. 'Spirit of Peace' is an apricot pink bloom. The poster refers to the Australian Rose Conference, the Autumn Rose Show, rose championships, a Rose Ball and exhibitions and tours and field days. The Adelaide Rose Festival is organised by the Rose Society of South Australia and the City of Adelaide. It centres on Botanic Park but also includes trips to regional gardens in areas such as the Adelaide Hills, the Fleurieu Peninsula and the Clare Valley. The programme for the Adelaide Rose Festival includes exhibitions of roses and other plants in landscaped displays and cut flower arrangements, launches of new roses, displays of garden design and garden accessories, open gardens and seminars. |
