Description :

The Adelaide Festival of Ideas gathers together the world's most thought-provoking speakers to present a series of lectures and panel discussions exploring contemporary issues and ideas. The Festival is held in several venues along Adelaide's cultural boulevard, North Terrace. Sponsors include the Government of South Australia, South Australian universities, Adelaide City Council and the State Library of SA.

The theme of the 2007 Adelaide Festival of ideas Which way to the future? reviews topical concerns: 'how to meet our future energy and water needs, living in a world where China and India are global super-powers, and balancing security and freedom in an age of terror and uncertainty'.

Speakers include James Lovelock (UK), originator of the Gaia Theory; Sidney Jones (USA), specialist in human rights in Asia; Philippe Legrain (UK), author of Immigrants: Your Country Needs Them; and Peter Cullen (Australia), well known commentator on water issues in Australia.

The 2007 Festival is the fifth such festival to be held. The inaugural Adelaide Festival of Ideas was held in July 1999.
