Built at Mort's Dock in Sydney with an inverted direct acting steam engine, 60 nhp cylinders 36 inch diameter and 20 inch stroke, the ship was given an extensive refit in Adelaide in 1884. It was also manned at times of financial stringency by the crew of HMCS Protector.Governor Musgrave served as an examination vessel under the control of the Royal Australian Navy during World War I and in 1915 was acquired by the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service for duty in Western Australia. |
