Description :
The first significant numbers of German migrants arrived in South Australia in 1838, with the assistance of George Fife Angas of the South Australia Company. Angas established them as his tenants on land at Klemzig (on the River Torrens, now an Adelaide suburb), Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills and Bethany in the Barossa Valley.

This newspaper article praises the German emigrants to South Australia, describing them as;

industrious in service, regular, sedate, and capable of applying themselves to many kinds of labor.
