Description :

Advertisement for Harris, Scarfe, Limited's 'Stimulating...Inspiring...Fascinating...' range of fabrics.

From its beginnings as an ironmongery and importer of mining materials in 1866 the Harris Scarfe company grew to become a more general hardware and homewares store by the 1920s. This advertisement gives the shop's location as 'The Arcade, Rundle Street'. This arcade ran the length of the Harris Scarfe building between Grenfell and Rundle Streets. It provided display space for merchandise, but was demolished in 1937 to create one large open showroom.
