Luke Broadbent and his wife Harriet who both arrived in South Australia on the Buffalo (ship). Luke Broadbent was the author of the book: The Destiny of England. The Buffalo (ship) was a three mast ship built in 1813 in Calcutta and was originally named the Hindostan. The Buffalo was purchased by Royal Navy same year as a storeship/timber carrier and renamed. She departed Spithead, England 11 July 1836 and arrived in Port Lincoln 24 December, then Holdfast Bay on 28 December 1836. The Master was John Hindmarsh, who was later known as the Governor of the new colony of South Australia. See SA Memory List of passengers on the Buffalo. |
