Description : |
Typescript of an original manuscript journal kept during the voyage to South Australia on the Templar (ship), 21 July - 13 November 1845. The journal is very detailed and includes sketches and plans, for example, a plan of the cabins and family names of those in each (pg. 24). At the end of the journal there are details about the arrival and settlement in Australia dated 1849, and a list of expenses following the family's arrival. There is also a separate list of the contents of 14 boxes and trunks of clothing, household requisites and tools needed for the voyage and life in the colony which includes items like shirts, neckerchiefs, stockings, trousers, stays, pinafores, petticoats, figs and acid drops. Other lists are titled Implements, Carpenter Tools, Half Hogs Head and High Barrel. |
