Description :

This piece was a favourite in South Australia's early colonial drawing rooms and had multiple reprintings. Joseph Elliot wrote the music and lyrics for this piece.
Andrew McCredie (1988) describes the arrangement thus 'Elliott divided the 24 lines into three eight line stanzas of broken couplets and set them to an artless lilting 6/8 metre in D major, with a simple melodic framework'.
This edition was printed at the offices of the Southern Argus, a newspaper based at Strathalbyn of which Joseph Elliot was the proprietor.
