Description : |
An Australian Bustard caught during C. T. Madigan's expedition to Simpson Desert in 1939. The Australian Bustard Ardeotis australis, also known as Plains or Wild turkey, is a very large, heavy-bodied, ground-dwelling bird of the open plains. Males can grow to over one metre tall and weigh 15 kilograms. It was formerly found throughout inland Australia but is now much reduced due to predation by foxes and cats, illegal hunting and land clearance. |
