Description :

The ketch Aristides was built in 1902 in Tasmania by R Kennedy and Sons. By 1910 the vessel was registered at Port Adelaide to the South Australian government and worked servicing buoys and beacons for the South Australian Harbors Board.

Aristides was 80 feet long, 21.9 feet wide and with a depth of 7.1 feet. She served as a tender and general work boat for the Harbors Board for 15 years and was then sold into private hands.

The image shows the boat stranded at Beachport in 1918, but evidently suffering little damage. After 1929 Aristides was sold to a Tasmanian operator, Tom Spaulding. From here she operated across Bass Strait to Melbourne until wrecked on Three Hummock Island in 1940.
