Caricatures of various staff members at the Loveday Internment Camp and Hospital done by John (Jack) Treloar. Undated but apporoximately 1946. John (Jack) Treloar was born at Red Hill, SA, on 9 November 1891. He was educated at Prince Alfred College, and was skilled in art, music and sport. He served in the Middle East during World War I and after the war became a farmer near Balaklava. When World War II was declared he re-enlisted and was posted to Loveday Internment Camp, doing general staff duties. He spent his leisure hours sketching staff and cartoons of everyday life in camp. Treloar stayed in the Army after 1945 and worked in the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Victoria. Jack Treloar was a skilled cartoonist and several of his works were published in Smith's Weekly. He died 6 October 1968. |
