Studio photograph of South Australian nurses titled 'Patriotic nurses for South Africa'. The women are: Back row: Miss A B Stephenson, Miss A G Cocks Front row: Miss M O'Shanahan, Miss E A Watts, Miss M S Bidmead, Miss A M Glenie. Martha Bidmead was awarded the Royal Red Cross for her services in the Boer War, only one of three Australian nurses to receive it. She was in charge of the group of nurses in the photograph. They sailed from Melbourne aboard the Australasian in February 1900. |
