Description :

An early model electric car being driven through the streets of Adelaide in the early 1940s.

The car was designed by John Bowker and could travel for up to 94 miles (151 kms) at a speed of 24 mph (38 kmph) before requiring a recharge. It is shown outside the State Library, Parliament House and Montefiore Hill where it stops near the statue of Colonel Light.

The State Library of South Australia holds 48 film reels (available on video tape) taken by Laurence S. Casson between 1934-1976. Casson's recordings show Pinnaroo and the surrounding district, family occasions and various South Australian events such as the one shown here.
