Description : |
The National Trust bought the PS Marion in 1963 to use as a memorial to the river boat era. Having been laid up at Morgan for some years this film shows it steaming down the River Murray to Mannum where it was to become a floating museum. For over thirty years its home was Randell Dry Dock in Mannum but in 1989 it was decided to make the boat operational once more. Recommissioned in November 1994 it now undertakes short cruises and overnight cruises. PS Marion is the last operational, heritage, steam driven, wood fired, overnight passenger carrying side paddle steamer in the world. Ron Axer, returned serviceman and newsagent of Mannum filmed local scenes and events in the Riverland including floods; and events in Adelaide including the Royal Tour of 1954. |
