Description : |
Originally published in 1787 by E Newbery this book is about two children who are taught moral lessons by both their mother, Lady Meanwell, and the shopkeeper by means of the toys purchased from his toy shop. As in Wonders of a toy shop the illustrations provide glimpses of the many types of toys available to children of wealthier parents in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It also provides glimpses of the children's home and the environment in which they played with their toys. This copy is inscribed to 'Margaret --- with Aunt Harry's kind love ...'. |
