Description :

Portrait of F.B. Andrews from Mount Deception from the S.A. Northern Pioneers' composite, 1850-1859 (shown in position on B 6912/1).

Mt Deception in the northern Flinders Ranges was named by Edward John Eyre in 1840 as he explored northern South Australia looking for good pastoral lands. His way to the far north was blocked by salt lakes; the mountain itself was deceptive in its seeming promise of water, hence the name.

The first lease on a pastoral run at Mount Deception was taken up in 1856 by William Swan and subsequently taken up by the Stuckey Brothers.

No information about F B Andrews has been located at this time.
