Early locally composed sheet music of the day often reflected social events, such as the comings and goings of early Governors and their spouses and the visits of royalty.
Sir Dominick Daly was the Governor of South Australia from 1862-1868. This song is dedicated to his wife Caroline Maria who died at Glenelg in July 1872.
