Description :

Portrait of S. Boord from Orraparinna from the S.A. Northern Pioneers' composite, 1850-1859 (shown in position on B 6912/2).

Septimus Boord acquired the lease for Oraparinna Station in January 1852. He was a neighbour of Fred Hayward on Aroona. Frederick Sinnett conducted the survey of Oraparina for Boord.

Orraparinna (Oraparinna) Station is north west of Wilpena in the Flinders Ranges. In average seasons the station could carry 6000 sheep and 1000 head of cattle. It covered some 239 square miles. Boord however appeared to fare badly, presumably because of the drought of the late 1860s and William Beare acquired the property with his partner J W Gleeson. The lease was again auctioned in the 1880s and Oraparinna again failed to prosper for the owners.

In 1970 the South Australian government purchased Oraparinna and it was incorporated into the Flinders Ranges National Park.
