Description : |
The Girl Guides started in South Australia in 1912 following a visit by Lord Robert Baden-Powell. The first unit was known as the Baden-Powell Girl Guides. 1913 saw the first enrolment of guides in South Australia and the first Guide camp was held at Mount Lofty. Guide companies were first located in Glen Osmond and Parkside and later in Clare. Lucy Hines was an accomplished pianist. After the death of her husband, Ernest William Maymon Hines, she supported herself financially by giving piano lessons and recitals, accompanying singers and writing articles for the Adelaide Examiner. She lived in Western Australia from the 1940s and taught for a time at Fairbridge Farm School in Pinjarra. |
