Women's Air Training Corps marching in King William Street, with a crowd of onlookers and a marching band preceding them, c 1943. The Women's Air Training Corps (WATC) was a voluntary organisation which was established in Brisbane, Queensland in April 1939, and later in other states including South Australia. The WATC provided voluntary service to the RAAF as drivers and clerks. Training was provided for volunteers for duties in motor transport, wireless telegraphy, photography, draughting, clerical work, and work on aero engines. These skills were also sought for positions in services such as the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF). |
