View of the Port Augusta Hospital. The caption includes the members of the Hospital's Board of Management: 'W.J. Trembath (Chairman), J. Bealton, D. Drysdale, C. Robertson, J.G. Moseley, W.A. Richardson, C.W. Mudie, T. Hunter, W.G. Pryor, F. Burns (Secretary)'. This image comes from a lithograph insert which was attached to the Port Augusta and Quorn Dispatch newspaper on 28 October 1892. The first hospital in Port Augusta opened in 1874, and consisted of accommodation for two patients. In 1886 the accommodation was increased to 50 beds. Today the Port Augusta Hospital is an 82 bed acute care hospital and provides medical services to the sparsely populated Flinders and Far North area of South Australia. |
